Every Memorial day, the Veteran’s Memorial Day Committee of Kern County places a flag on each veteran’s grave at Historic Union Cemetery. Each year, the committee inspects, cleans, and repairs the flags so that they will be presentable.

Historic Union Cemetery is where Colonel Baker and other city founders are buried. There are graves dating back to the Spanish American war. This year, while counting and sorting the flags for replacement, we realized a need to replenish and increase our supply of flags. We do not want to miss one service member’s grave. Some of the graves we decorate with flags have long been forgotten, but we will never forget the great sacrifice each of them made to insure our freedom.

We would like to invite you to help us replace the flags that must be retired. It is with your help as individuals and organizations, that we will be able to purchase 1,500 8” x 12” hemmed flags. It is our goal to have 5,000 flags to insure that no veteran’s grave is left empty.

We have found a supplier that we can get flags for 1.00 each. Any donation you are able to make is tax deductible. (501(c)(3)-tax deductible Tax ID #91-1314280)

The flags need to be ordered ASAP in order to arrive in time for placement at this year’s ceremony. Please make checks payable to United Veterans Memorial Day Committee.
